Online Poker Tips

Despite the attempted prohibitive legal moves, online poker is more successful than ever in most parts of the world. One factor that fuels the continued success of the online poker phenomenon has a lot to do with fish. Yes indeed, nowhere will you find more fish /table than in online poker rooms.

The reason why there are so many fish in online poker, is that never before has the game of poker been presented in a more accessible package. It doesn’t really matter if one lives in Mongolia, China, Africa or the US. All it takes is an internet connection and a few bucks deposited into your poker account, to start rolling. Another added benefit is, that no matter how much of a dufus you are, nobody is going to laugh at your antics ( well, actually they might, but they won’t be able to do it face-to-face anyway)

Up until recently, there were very few online poker guides available for these guys to learn from, and this also contributed to making it more difficult for them to progress. Sure, there are a bunch of websites out there, featuring all sorts of poker strategies and tips, but most of them only apply to real live poker and many are way too advanced to benefit rookies in any form. First thing you need to do if you decide to play online poker, is to find a poker room to play at. That won’t be difficult at all, since the internet is crawling with such rooms these days, but finding the best one, can prove quite a challenge. In order to make sure you won’t have to switch rooms once you get the hang of the game, make sure your poker room fulfills these three criteria: 1) it is honest and trustworthy ( cashout is smooth) 2) it has a good bonus system, 3) it has good promotions ( if you sign up to a room which offers rakeback, you’ll really thank yourself later)

Once you choose a room, sign up, download and install their software, next thing you need to do is hit the free ( or playmoney) tables. No, you won’t learn to play proper poker here, but that shouldn’t really be your goal at all. You’re there to get the hang of the software, get to know the interface, and get a feel of the game ( speed, style etc etc.) mind you that you shouldn’t spend too much time at the free tables. They’ll only teach you the wrong skills, and being a rookie, the last thing you need is to get a start in the wrong direction.

Some people say choosing your screen name is important, but at the end of the day it’ll all come down to how well you play and how successful you are at the table, so I wouldn’t worry about that screen name too much. A much more important thing though, is to be properly bankrolled from the very beginning. There are several reasons why you should keep your bankroll healthy. First of all, a bigger bankroll will always dominate a smaller one. Basically, at a small limit table you’ll be able to dominate just by virtue of your fat stack of chips. This happens at higher limit and no limit tables as well, but there, it involves more risk-taking.

Second: if you play ring tables, the time that you’ll spend playing poker will be directly proportional with the money you make. Playing on a frail bankroll and running a risk of being completely busted out, will almost certainly sideline you for a while. In poker, losing is just as much par of the game as winning is. You will lose some and you will win some. You need to make sure though, that you can survive a loss in order to win another day.

The best ( and quickest) way to build up a bankroll is to have someone already signed up transfer funds for you. Online poker rooms will often have a limit on deposits you can make ( in order to prevent you from playing you life-savings away, or to save themselves the trouble of having to clear out big, problematic credit card-charges) All in all. You’re better off managing you cash online than having to constantly resort to credit card charges. ( in case you’re a winner of course, otherwise you’ll have no choice).
